Genbrug på matriklen (Reuse on the Plot) is a research initiative that investigates how architectural design processes can be transformed by prioritizing the direct reuse of materials on a building site, a strategy recognized as one of the most impactful practices for sustainable construction. The project explores how architects can work with material data , including environmental screening and non-destructive testing , to better understand, evaluate, and integrate existing materials before demolition or new construction begins. This approach aims to reduce waste and carbon emissions by informing design decisions with real, site-specific material data.

The resulting publication documents the project’s research methodology, findings, and implications for the future of circular design practice. It highlights innovative workflows and reflects on how access to new data reshapes architectural thinking during redevelopment. The report presents case studies, environmental and digital mapping methods, and strategies for integrating reclaimed materials directly into new design processes.

My role in the project and publication involved contributing to the research and design processes that center around sustainable reuse strategies and LCA. I participated in analyzing material potential, exploring new methods for documenting and integrating building components, and synthesizing insights that inform the team’s design outcomes and the published report.
