Regenerative Building, Volume 2 explores how architecture and construction can move beyond reducing environmental impact towards actively contributing to the regeneration of ecological systems.

I contributed to the publication with research and life cycle assessment, focusing particularly on how environmental impacts can be understood beyond conventional attributional LCA. My work explored the use of consequential life cycle assessment (C-LCA) to understand the wider effects of material choices, including how changes in demand can influence production, substitution, resource use and environmental impacts across interconnected markets.

The work brought together building-scale LCA, material flows and market-based modelling to investigate the consequences of design and material choices at a broader system level. Rather than asking only “what is the footprint of this building?”, the analysis asks “what changes in the world because we choose this solution?”

The resulting work contributes a more systemic perspective on regenerative architecture, connecting design decisions with the material and environmental systems they depend upon. Read the publication here
